5th Quarter is a Friday night event designed to
provide a safe environment for teens on Friday nights using staff and adult
volunteers for positive interaction and extended contacts with youth outside of
regular school hours. a supervised environment of social time with food, music,
Pac-man, video games, board games, basketball and lots of fun!
- To participate, parents must sign an
authorization form allowing EKO to get grades and conduct status on their
child.
- It gives the youth an opportunity for youth people
to develop cooperative skills as they interact with each other.
- The two-part program is hosted at The Life
Center in Eatonville (Friday nights) and on the campuses of Edgewater High
School, Lee Middle, Lockhart Middle and Maitland Middle during lunch.
- This program is run concurrent with the school
year and follows the regular academic calendar and sports schedule.
The
goal is to serve 75-100 teens each week.
The outcomes are as follows:
- Increase school attendance
Reduce
delinquent behaviors
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA or better
- Share boundaries and expectations for
relationship with positive adult role models
- Positive self identity (making good choices)
- Empowerment (a safe place to play and interact
with peers)
